To obtain a marriage license in New Jersey:
You must not be a party to another civil union, domestic partnership or marriage
Be of the opposite sex
Be at least 18 years of age
Contact your local registrar in which either of your reside
Required Documents:
Proof of identity with a driver's license, passport or federal I.D.
Proof of residency
Your social security card or number
One witness, 18 years of age or older
$28 application fee
If divorced, please bring the divorce decree
You must apply no sooner than 30 days prior to the wedding date. The license is only good for 30 days
There is a 72 hour waiting period before the license is issued
The officiant will fill out the marriage license after the ceremony and file it with the municipality where your wedding took place. You can pick up a copy of it from that office in 2 days
